A little different to my usual videos / posts - a bit more serious chaps! But you still might have a chuckle or too at my oddness in this video!

Anyway, for the post readers out there! After things I've seen today I had to make a video along these lines. There are nasty comments flying about regarding bloggers... and it's unfortunately a growing trend, I'm sure of it. Here, I'm talking about outfit bloggers in particular. These comments aren't from other bloggers (I've not seen that myself, although apparently it happens), but from non-bloggers. Your average web user - mostly women, from behind their bits of tech.

'You call that style?', 'that looks horrid on her', 'that looks awful' 'why would you wear that when you're that size', 'I'd NEVER wear that ergh' - all things I've seen in regards to outfit bloggers' photos recently. Despite their arguments, I truly don't believe these people would say these things in 'real life'. After all, their comments are often directed at complete strangers. I hate thinking that women are out there to upset others and I'm horrified by these comments. This is a really grim side of the internet. I'm not saying 'us poor old outfit bloggers'- it's more a question of women being supportive of one another, as Sheri said in her post about some nastiness that she'd seen towards bloggers. Snide comments will get you no where in life. We've probably all made the occasional one - in all honesty, I know I have and I've instantly felt guilty. But women who persistently do this damage women as a group.

I know you beauties who read my blog aren't those sorts - but it'd be grand if you could all help spread the word! Oh and nasty ones - if you are reading - on the web, there's that red cross button. Y'all seem to be unaware of that one. If you don't like someones blog, outfit, body, or whatever, that button is there for a reason. Use it.

(Ps. Do you like my telling-off-face?)

  1. GO ROBYN!
Agree with everything. I haven't experienced any hate on my blog yet but I have experienced it on my youtube when i made videos before i blogged which is why i stopped. I think some people are so small minded and cruel. It's really disheartening to see other girls acting like this.

  2. I do love your stern 'telling off' face very much! Yep, I have to agree with everything you said. I see it all the time on a whole host of blogs, especially some of the more well known ones. I think it's a case of massive jealousy and insecurity really, trying to knock people down so they can feel better about themselves. It's ridiculous, but I think anonymity brings out the worst in people. xxx

    1. Haha! I'm glad you do ;) Yeah I get that sense, these people probably have no confidence so feel that knocking others' will make things better"

  3. Couldn't agree with you more in this video - I've also seen a few idiots lately making nasty comments about bloggers and I just can't help but think "If you can't say anything nice, why bother saying anything at all!?" If you don't like someone's outfit then just don't comment about it!

Luckily these idiots are in the minority and most people who leave blog comments leave positive ones. Whenever I leave a comment on someone's blogs it's because I like the post and/or what they're wearing and I know from personal experience that having someone leave a lovely comment on your blog can make your day!

  4. I totally agree with this. I've had a few nasty comments, but agree, mostly they seem to be from non-bloggers. The blogging community is generally such a lovely, supportive place & it's such a shame that there are a few that want to try & ruin that spreading negativity.
One of the types I hate most are the 'omg, who does she think she is' 'your so vain & stuck up' type comments. I don't get it, I don't post outfits because I love myself, infact it's the total opposite - I'm shy, self-conscious, insecure with my looks & blogging has helped me massively with all of these things!
The worst places I find for this are brands facebook pages - Go check out boohoo & asos's for example, everytime they post bloggers there are a heap of bitchy comments like 'shes too skinny' 'that looks awful' 'shes ugly' 'she thinks shes a model' .etc, it makes me so angry! They do seem to be doing a better job of deleting these recently though, which is good.
PS: Your telling off face is pure gold! Haha!

    1. Sorry to hear that :( yeah the community is generally fab! I'm precisely teh same, blogging has given me confidence! Yep! I didn't want to mention specific brands in the video as I know some are trying to act upon the comments, but I've seen the same thing!

  5. I completely agree, I think girls can be so bitchy at times and it's horrible to think that someone would want another person to feel down about themselves, I mean it takes a lot of balls to set up a blog and post pictures of yourself on it for everyone to see, I hate the majority of my pictures I put up but I love fashion and it makes me happy so I put them up anyway and if I had someone criticising them it would completely knock my confidence. Being nice is seriously underrated now a days. x

  6. I fully agree with this Robyn, it's so true. I started blogging outfits to gain confidence in my own style (as well as it being something I enjoy, shoe obsessives anonymous etc) and the thought of getting these comments myself makes me want to curl up and hide; it'd probably a blessing when I hear about these things that I have a relatively small blog following in comparison to some. But you put it really well and I agree that if you've nothing nice to say, don't say anything, that sentiment is hugely underrated xxx

  7. Bahahahaha Robyn I love you so much and I really hope we get to chat on Wednesday at AX Paris! I like how passionate you are about this (and the knitting granny analogy), us style bloggers really need to stick together and support each other. It's shocking how horrible some people can be, it obviously is a jealousy thing and I feel bad for those girls who are really insecure and take the harsh words to heart. It's so cruel!

In the words of Taylor, people throw rocks at things that shine.

  8. This is something that has often made me angry, and I think beauty bloggersm probably get it just as bad, as do Youtubers (if their skin/hair isn't perfect, etc etc). I think this is also the reason a lot of bloggers don't want to admit to what they do, as so many people seem to just automatically assume that all bloggers love themselves and that that is the only reason we post pictures of ourselves. If I'm completely honest, I might have even wondered that myself before I actually started reading blogs - I think it's just something that people are too quick to judge on.
As for the flat out bitchiness, I really can't stand it, and I'm certain that many of the people who leave such comments don't actually even have anything against how most people look or what they are wearing - they quite simply set out to leave a nasty comment on the next thing they see. It's so pathetic, and it makes me wonder where people find the time for it when they could be out having a life - and also, how they can look in the mirror and not feel ashamed of themselves.
Great video, good for you for speaking up about it.

  10. You = awesome. I'm actually stepping back from blog land at the moment but I had to comment as yesterday anon got really nasty on my blog, for no reason...worse, it's clearly someone I know as there was information being used against me (again no reason) that only a "friend" would know. Ugh. What did I do to deserve that?

    Sorry,
    rant over!

  11. I've tweeted you but thought I ought to leave a lovely comment too. It's almost too easy to say horrible things to someone else. None of us bloggers deserve to be bullied like that and I hope your video helps other people to shake it off and carry on. xx

  13. Thank you for the mention lovely, this is a great post and video! I hate seeing girl on girl and blogger on blogger hate, we're all in this together right? For the most part I find the blogoshpere an incredibly positive place and an amazing support system, whether that be for confidence boosting and compliments or actual emotional support in a tough time or needing to feel like someone cares a little. When I see bitchyness I just think 'why do you want to spoil the amazing thing we have going her?'. But you're right, thankfully that happens rarely. I think it is just that people don't understand why we blog, I see it in my friends, they take the piss when I take pictures, they take the piss of how I stand or what I say, they're not being it to be mean but because they don't understand. It's only recently when I've been contacted by PRs about some lucrative sponsorship collaboration that they've taken it seriously, which is a shame, blogging is a passion, always, before a money making opportunity. xxx
